After a public nomination on the World Series of Poker (WSOP) website - WSOP.com - and a vetting of all nominations by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council, the short list for the 2012 WSOP Hall of Fame inductees has been created.
Here are the 2012 WSOP Poker Hall of Fame Finalists: Chris Bjorin, David Chiu, Eric Drache, Thor Hansen, George Hardie, Jennifer Harman-Traniello, John Juanda, Tom McEvoy, Scotty Nguyen, Brian “Sailor” Roberts.
The Betfair Poker page indicates that four of these players were short-listed last year, and they include Harman-Traniello, Juanda, McEvoy and Nguyen.
Brian “Sailor” Roberts has been added to the list by virtue of his write-in nomination from an existing Hall of Famer (the rules state that an existing member of the PHOF has the ability to “write-in” a candidate they believe deserves admission, but were not submitted as a candidate by the general public).
The above list will be submitted to the existing 18-member of the WSOP Poker Hall of Fame and an 18-person media panel later this month, where voting will begin. The criteria that they must be judged on include.
A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition; they must be a minimum of 40-years old at the time of nomination, and they must have played for high stakes.
They must also have played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers, and standing the test of time. For non-players, they must have contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
